The McLaren Vale Wine Region

The McLaren Vale Wine Region

The stunning McLaren Vale wine region offers world-class wines and exquisite culinary experiences nestled amongst picturesque vineyards and coastal views all in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula’s wine-growing area. Conveniently situated about 45 minutes south of the centre of Adelaide, this breathtaking region is within easy reach for day trips and longer stays alike.

Boasting over 160 years of winemaking history, the internationally renowned Mclaren Vale region is one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World, with the first vineyards dating back to 1838.  Today there are over 88 cellar doors in the region, offering fine wine lovers a fruitful abundance of grape varieties across a multitude of styles.  With such a breadth of choice and variety, even the most discerning of palates is guaranteed to find something exceptional.

The climate in McLaren Vale is well suited to a variety of grapes from around the world; including, Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet as well as Mediterranean varieties such as Tempranillo and Sangiovese.  While McLaren Vale is best known for its dry red styles, particularly Shiraz, keen wine lovers will also find popular white varietals, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho.
