The Legend of McLaren Vale
Mister Graham Stevens turned 80 in June and the 2019 vintage was his 50th under his belt. If this wasn’t enough to make someone special the wines he makes, his stories and memory all make him the Legend of McLaren Vale.
Graham first started making wine in the mid 60’s and has learned a lot over his 50 vintages and is happy to share his knowledge with everyone who walks through his cellar door. In June, 2019 he celebrated 10 years of his own cellar door with a wonderful weekend of wines, stories, sausage sizzles and friends. The great weekend was marked with tastings from old magnums and some ports from the mid 1980’s. Definitely a treat you won’t be able to taste every weekend.
While Graham is a regular stop on my tours and also just while I’m out and about, this was a special weekend I will not soon forget. If you have any questions about wine, wine making, the history of McLaren Vale or just want to hear some good anecdotes then make sure to stop in and see Graham and his daughter Carolyn the next time you’re in McLaren Flat. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.
Happy birthday you legend!!
